SPOOL

I had the privilege of being Lead Artist for The Big Draw at Festival 2014 during The Glasgow Commonwealth Games, where I got to devise and facilitate free public engagement projects for the public every day for two weeks. Each of the projects changed daily and were to tie in with themes of the Commonwealth, Glasgow and the Games' theme of HOME. We saw close to 20,000 people over the course of the two weeks, each of whom took part in an activity.

Tying in with Glasgow's shipping & textile industry, participants were asked to create cumulative art works using wool as their 'drawing' line. Hessian was stretched over several reclaimed shipping spools for the public to leave their mark. Due to the spools' cylindrical nature, the tapestry drawings began to meet, overlap and respond to each other resulting in beautiful layered public collaborations.

After the workshop, the spools were left on Glasgow Green for the remainder of The Commonwealth Games, allowing passing public to further interact and contribute.
